The Final Report of the European Regional Meeting on the World Programme for Human Rights Education, which took place in Strasbourg (France) on 5-6 November 2007, is now available online. This meeting was organised by the Council of Europe in cooperation with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, UNESCO and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the OSCE (ODIHR). The report was prepared by HREA's Director Felisa Tibbitts, who was General Rapporteur of the meeting.
The report highlights key outcomes of the regional meeting, which was attended by over 150 participants from more than 50 countries. The Executive Summary of the report confirms a growing awareness of and support for HRE from policymakers, civil society organisations and professionals in both formal and non-formal education. Moreover, it documents an increasing demand for seeking and developing expertise in HRE. This growing awareness and demand will need to be developed into practical strategies that can be used locally, but coordinated and supported nationally.
