The World Association for the School as an Instrument of Peace (EIP) is an international NGO founded in Geneva in 1967. It has consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), UNESCO, International Labor Organization (ILO), International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), Council of Europe and African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights. It carries out its activities in the area of human rights, civil society and peace education.

Convinced of the major role schools can play, EIP works to heighten an awareness of this within educational circles, governmental authorities and public opinion. Therefore, EIP advocates full realization of the right of education and fights all forms of injustice and inequality, sources of clashes and exclusion.

In 1987, EIP created the International training centre for Human Rights and Peace Teaching (CIFEDHOP), which, since a few years, focuses on trainings on the universal periodical review (UPR) of the UN Human Rights Council.

Over the years, EIP has built up an international network of experts in the fileds of educational sciences, law, social sciences as well as visual arts. Front-ranking actors of civil society, members of the national sections intercede with educational and political authorities and think of pedagogical intervention projects in order to promote effective application of human rights and peace education within the educational system.

Aiming at keeping news on education up to date, EIP co-operates with its partners for the creation of an observatory on the role of human rights and peace education within states’ educational policies.
